Parents International Parent Summit 2022 in Amsterdam

A Message From Debbie

I was invited to provide a keynote address at Parents International Parent Summit 2022 in Amsterdam on Thursday, September 1st. What an amazing experience to present to individuals from the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, Georgia, Hungary, Germany, Israel, Wales, and Belgium! My keynote, which you can catch in the attached video, focused on parent efficacy. Parent efficacy is a parent’s belief in their ability to perform their role successfully. You will note that one of my key messages in the video is that parent efficacy is actualized by school personnel when they:

•       position a parent as parent;

•       use parent knowledge;

•       acknowledge the parent’s wholistic focus;

•       engage the parent in natural, authentic, and meaningful ways;

•       honor the parent’s culture, language, identity;

•       work from a place of capacity; and

•       ask the parent what place, voice, support they may like.

My session was interactive and, throughout it, many experiences, perspectives, and stories were shared! Such a rich interchange! Enjoy the video!
