Leadership Institute on Systematic Parent Engagement
There has been a call for change in school systems in Saskatchewan. Wide-spread provincial consultations gave voice to parents and community about their hopes and dreams for public education. These voices, supported by current and compelling research, have shaped the new 10 year Provincial Education Plan. This work requires re-conceptualizing the school landscape and parents’ and families’ role within it. It requires you, as leader, to become a visionary and skilled school landscape architect. Are you ready for this challenge?
Dr. Debbie Pushor is pleased to present the Leadership Institute on Systematic Parent Engagement in July 2022. With a focus on systematic parent engagement in teaching and learning, the purpose of this institute is to support you as leaders in deepening the underpinning knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will enable you to embed meaningful and authentic relationships with parents, family, and community members into your schools and systems.
As educators, we have a shared responsibility to rise to the challenges of a changing society, the effects of a global pandemic, and our past failure to meet the learning and wellbeing needs of many Indigenous and Métis students, families, and communities through our current educational structures and practices. With the implementation of the new provincial education plan in just a year’s time, we have a window of opportunity to reflect on where we’ve been, to attend to the voices of parents and community, and build the foundation for school transformation.
The Leadership Institute will take place in Saskatoon from July 11 to 15, 2022. It will include 35 hours of instructional time with assigned pre-reading materials and follow-up requirements. Participants who successfully complete the Institute will receive certification as a parent engagement lead within their school/division/organization. They will also receive 15 LEADS credits. That is 15/24 earned credits for LEADS annual accreditation requirements. While the course will be taken in July 2022, these credits will be recognized for the September to August 2022/2023 reporting year.
